<p>IMO the hardest part is not figure out what the ideal world should be, what is hard is figure out what pragmatically is possible to do given the current reality and constraints.</p>
<p><strong>Asahi Linux Team</strong> had a lot of trouble to <a href="https://asahilinux.org/docs/hw/soc/sep/" rel="noopener nofollow ugc">reverse engineer M1’s Secure Enclave Processor</a> and modify <a href="https://github.com/AsahiLinux/widevine-installer/blob/eab8c668ad3f9db27a444ee1f94b82d8f3ab5336/widevine_fixup.py#L46-L75" rel="noopener nofollow ugc">ChromeOS Widevine image</a> simply to allow basic stuff like watch Netflix in the browser, notice is not as simple as “there’s an open-source TEE option…” because we still depend on centralized services supporting this hardware, which probably won’t if the user base is irrelevant, or they simply decided agains’t it because saw it as a treat. I don’t think the average user will choose a safer decentralized alternative where he can’t simply watch Netflix.</p>

<p>According to Gustave Le Bon and William McDougall, when individuals coalesce into a psychological crowd their individual consciousness and rational personality vanish and become something like a collective being or hive mind. That under this collective state individuals lose their capacity for complex / rational thinking and become suggestible, emotional and impulsive.</p>
<p>The thing that plutocracy, I thought, would solve was that those higher up on the economic ladder would have had to meet a minimum of criteria to be in that position. That generally, those individuals would be more intelligent, more rational, and generally but not always better at decision making. That just made these individuals lightning rods for anyone who wanted large voters to see things their way (waggle dancing). With so many people attempting to sway your opinion it becomes impossible to debias and make rational decisions. What I hoped I would see is more focus on long term profit rather than short term gain. We got the exact opposite. As I said earlier, I still believe that the distributions played a pivotal role here and that changes to the initial distributions may have yielded a different outcome.</p>

<p>What my current hypothesis is, is that poor governance is inevitable as long as the crowd exists. Because as long as funding is involved with no <strong>dominant</strong> central vision, plan or culture pre-established, you end up with one or more in-groups, one or more out-groups and marginalized individuals/groups. In-group preference means that things will be overlooked, ignored, etc while out-group receives the lion share of criticism. (A battle of culture and vision)</p>

<p>That’s why the incentives need to align with the desired outcomes. Like I said above, token holders do not really care who gets funded for what. They care about thing that we dare not mention go up. If we can figure out what success looks like, build mechanisms for data logging/collection, and fund based on hard metrics (outcomes) – things will look a lot different. I’m not quite sure what those metrics look like right now or how any of it would work. I have some ideas but not really sure what’s possible or desirable. Silo the people to get rid of the crowds and let them build out their own vision of what polkadot looks like in smaller clusters.</p>

<p>To close my participation in this thread, I want to return to the theoretical framework I mentioned earlier. I believe it offers a constructive way out of the current “Moderators vs. Community” loop.</p>

<li>Luhmann and the Trap of Binarization</li>
</ol>
<p>As Niklas Luhmann shows, social systems reduce complexity through binary codes—Law operates on legal/illegal; the economy on payment/non-payment, voting systems on winners/losers.</p>
<p>At present, this Forum is enforcing a shallow binary—polite/impolite (or spam/not spam)—onto a discussion that actually runs on a deeper code: <strong>centralized/decentralized</strong>.</p>
<p>When moderation focuses primarily on tone, it filters out key signals about the system’s structural integrity. By smoothing the language, you smooth the information itself. You are not merely “cleaning up” the forum; but blinding the system to its own internal reality.</p>
<ol start="2">
<li>Varela and Biological Empathy</li>
</ol>
<p>This connects to Francisco Varela and enactivism.</p>
<p>For Varela, a living system—whether a cell or a DAO as a community of individuals—is autopoietic: it self-produces through its interactions with the environment.<br>
Here, empathy is a biological imperative—the recognition that the “other” is also an autonomous center of the world.</p>
<p>If Parity/W3F, as the system’s core, treats the community merely as an “environment to be controlled” or “noise to be silenced,” the structural coupling between core and periphery breaks down. The organism stops adapting; it becomes brittle.</p>
<p>Path Forward:</p>
<p>The “antitrust eagle” and “legal liability” I mentioned earlier should not be seen as threats; they are feedback loops—the environment pushing back, forcing the system to update for its own survival.</p>
<p>If the genuine aim is a global, permissionless system, the shift must be:</p>
<p>From: Controlling the noise<br>
To: Navigating the noise</p>
<p>Concretely, that means:</p>
<ul>
<li>Reduce the cost of participation. Make it easier—not harder—for critical voices to be heard without being pathologized as “unconstructive.”</li>
<li>Stop filtering “truth” through the lens of “tone.” Strong or abrasive language often carries high-value information about structural problems—especially centralization.</li>
<li>Practice biological empathy. That “jerk in the comments” might actually be a pain signal—alerting you to disease (centralization, opacity, capture) in the main organ.</li>
</ul>
<p>We don’t need ever-more intricate Moderation Guidelines layered on the same structure. We need better structural coupling between core entities and the broader community—so that entropy is reduced without killing the organism.</p>
<p>With that, I close my participation in this thread. I hope these lenses from Luhmann and Varela spark some fresh structural coupling for whoever carries the torch from here.</p>

<p>Are these projects like this truly beneficial to the ecosystem, or have they become a burden on the Treasury?</p>
<p>On other chains (Kusama, Ethereum, Solana, Cosmos, etc.), teams building multisig/wallet tools are usually expected to gradually move toward self-sustainability or community donations after initial grants. Should Polkadot Treasury also consider a “gradual off-ramping” mechanism or clearer sustainability plans for repeatedly funded infrastructure projects?</p>

<p>Thank you <a class="mention" href="/u/lynette">@Lynette</a> for the detailed feedback. I started using ink! right from it’s inception. I was excited that it was “Plain old Rust” and the barrier of entry for Rust developers (especially myself) had been obliterated, for good. Ink! is easy, intuitive and developer friendly. Thanks to rust primitives like macros, a lot of things have been abstracted away and we can focus on writing good business logic. Speaking of good logic, an example is handling &amp; returning errors (compared to solidity). Now that is all dev experience.<br>
All the above is a scratch compared to the out of the box underlying benefits Rust provides, e.g memory safety and the likes. Ink! literally makes smart contract development easy by taking away (almost) all the ugliness. Even a non-Rust developer can take it as a simple DSL and still write good contract logic (AND DEPLOY IT) because the dev interface is so good (part thanks to Rust abstractions).<br>
Ink! is definitely a great contract language i’d love to see more adoptions, interoperability with other infra and growth.<br>

<p>In the case of messaging, the problem of discovery is typically solved using a DHT and the peer identity keys without relying on trusted third parties, like DNS or certificate authorities. The use of initial seed nodes is still somewhat contentious, but as long as you can access this list somewhere, you are fine. For the protocol, Signal’s triple ratchet with CRYSTALS-Dilithium in hybrid mode (combined with a classical scheme) and Kyber KEM seems to be the way to go. A blockchain could make sense for anchoring peer identities in different contexts.</p>
