<p>Thank you <a class="mention" href="/u/lynette">@Lynette</a> for the detailed feedback. I started using ink! right from it’s inception. I was excited that it was “Plain old Rust” and the barrier of entry for Rust developers (especially myself) had been obliterated, for good. Ink! is easy, intuitive and developer friendly. Thanks to rust primitives like macros, a lot of things have been abstracted away and we can focus on writing good business logic. Speaking of good logic, an example is handling &amp; returning errors (compared to solidity). Now that is all dev experience.<br>
All the above is a scratch compared to the out of the box underlying benefits Rust provides, e.g memory safety and the likes. Ink! literally makes smart contract development easy by taking away (almost) all the ugliness. Even a non-Rust developer can take it as a simple DSL and still write good contract logic (AND DEPLOY IT) because the dev interface is so good (part thanks to Rust abstractions).<br>
Ink! is definitely a great contract language i’d love to see more adoptions, interoperability with other infra and growth.<br>

<p>In the case of messaging, the problem of discovery is typically solved using a DHT and the peer identity keys without relying on trusted third parties, like DNS or certificate authorities. The use of initial seed nodes is still somewhat contentious, but as long as you can access this list somewhere, you are fine. For the protocol, Signal’s triple ratchet with CRYSTALS-Dilithium in hybrid mode (combined with a classical scheme) and Kyber KEM seems to be the way to go. A blockchain could make sense for anchoring peer identities in different contexts.</p>

<p>I’m not sure about from an economics perspective but after some consideration it made me realize we’re missing critical feedback mechanisms on the wish for change track. It’s not possible to know if something we’re voting on is technically feasible or if it has been implemented after approval. The fellowship should have the ability to vote to veto any on-going wfc or approved wfc. Assuming a wfc is approved and not veto’d it should go into a work queue and receive another status update once it has been implemented.</p>
<p>I don’t actually know if anything from the WFC has ever been implemented.</p>

<p>Fair. To give context that I should have added (and added it now): Both contracts were not built with optimization in mind, so the results should be taken with care. Probably the Bare Rust contract could win more from those optimisation gaines.</p>

<p>A quick update on GovernNoun:</p>
<p>Some community members asked why GovernNoun isn’t commenting on all proposals. The reason is that the agent needs time to evaluate sentiment by gathering enough data. If a proposal is close to ending and there isn’t enough data for GovernNoun to form a logic, it won’t vote.</p>
<p>In the next update, we’ll add a logic where, if the agent doesn’t have enough time to gauge sentiment, it will abstain instead.</p>

Decentralized Voices Cohort 5 Application - Light Track: GoverNoun AI Governance Agent

<p>we want to clarify a few things due to the tone of this thread:</p>
<p>Even though we have moved out of Parity, there is still an ongoing collaboration and constant exchange with Parity and W3F. If you read <a href="https://polkadot.polkassembly.io/referenda/1796" rel="noopener nofollow ugc">the ink! Alliance’s proposal</a>, you will see that Parity has engaged with us to be one of the overseeing curators.</p>
<p>Similarly, since the decentralization from Parity, the W3F continues to be a curator of <a href="https://forum.polkadot.network/t/the-third-report-of-ink-ubator-v2/15726">the ink!ubator bounty</a>. We have bi-weekly calls to discuss the distribution of this bounty. Someone from W3F takes part in those calls.</p>
<p>ink! leaving Parity was not because the product was bad, it was as a general decentralization effort inside Parity at the time. Parity had grown a lot and a lot of products that were not core-Polkadot had emerged. With us, a number of other products (like PAPI, polkadot-js, or <a href="https://wasmi-labs.github.io/blog/posts/wasmi-v1.0/" rel="noopener nofollow ugc">wasmi</a>) moved outside. You can read more details how this happened <a href="https://x.com/ink_lang/status/1783877356819783916/photo/1" rel="noopener nofollow ugc">here</a>.</p>
<p>For ink!, this means that there are now more stakeholders besides just Parity. Specifically, a number of ecosystem teams are involved and our bi-weekly alignment call always has a number of attendees who are not ex-Parity (e.g. from Virto Network or Hyperbridge).</p>
<p>It is also important to note that at the time (2023) when the decision to decentralize ink! was made, the macro forces in Web3 were different. Now that Rust is onboarding developers 30% faster than Solidity, the previous decision to deprioritise ink! is being revisited. This is why, as Pierre correctly states above, the ink! Alliance is actively collaborating with Parity to evaluate ink! v6. Nobody can know the future, only make the best decisions with the current information at hand.</p>
<p>We also want to highlight that we (the ink! Alliance) have been actively contributing to core-Polkadot SDK repositories, as part of working on ink!. You can find the tracking issues <a href="https://github.com/use-ink/ink-alliance/issues?q=is%3Aissue%20state%3Aopen%20tracking" rel="noopener nofollow ugc">here</a>. Notably there are a number of contributions to PolkaVM and <code>polkadot-sdk</code>. Meaning: work on ink! continues to be integrated into broader Parity and W3F efforts.</p>
<p>This is a complex situation, we acknowledge this, and thank everyone for their support and collaboration.</p>
