Value is an objective metric measured in revenue and growth. What we have had up to this point is people gambling on theoretical future values and growth that have so far not shown up. Now Canton is coming to eat everyone’s lunch backed by a consortium of actual big boys that are going to arbitrage yield on treasuries, minting stables, while buying up assets to obtain loans to mint more stables and people don’t even realize what’s about to happen. Crypto had the better part of 2 decades to do something useful with basically unlimited money and failed.
I might have missed something but it seems like Akash is the most valuable thing that crypto has ever produced. I’ve been seeing tweets about helium rev numbers though – but one of those 2 is the top one and the other is the second. It only took however many trillions of injected liquidity and capital to get them and last I checked are doing collectively maybe $5M/mo of rev. :: insert gwb mission accomplished meme ::
Polkadot had a chance to get involved in helium and bring them over to dot, no one was interested in talking with them. Akash is leaving Cosmos as I type this – we could court them now. I’m sure no one will notice or care.
There is a fundamental misalignment, misconception, misunderstanding, mis something over what the goal is here and what it is that should be done. I can see in my conversations that people still fundamentally don’t get it – There are so many obvious avenues for advancement and all of them are ignored for pure research, pure block chain, or on the flip side, rug pulling, p&amp;d, etc. There’s no one in the middle who is actually capable of building a product that people want to use. Those people IMO, are not empowered. The pure science side loves agreeable people and the rug side is too busy rugging to even care to build anything useful.
I would just like to state for the record that it’s not possible for an agreeable person to be a builder because fundamentally to want to build something you have to look at what others have done and say “no they did it wrong”. Building is disagreeable to its core.
Even things where you’d think it would be simple, like, hey lets have domains on chain – you can’t even get alignment there. The pure research side has no idea how to run a business, what customers want, expect, need, etc because they spend every waking moment in some sort of fantasy land. Result is, product that will never be used.
(The reason academics are like this is because they spend too much time in schools that have become feminine and agreeable. They raise up agreeable people just like their teachers did. They believe this is how the world works. Holding a PhD in any field that doesn’t explicitly require it is now negative value to any organization.)

The subxt 0.50 migration I mentioned is done — landed in <a href="https://codeberg.org/hantoniu/subctl/releases/tag/v0.4.0" rel="noopener nofollow ugc">v0.4.0</a>. Significant refactor (subxt 0.38 → 0.50, lots of breaking API changes), but it turned up some edge cases in rewards detection that took two follow-up releases to fix. Claimed eras were being misread due to a changed composite wrapper in the new subxt. Fixed in v0.4.2.
<a class="mention" href="/u/karim">@Karim</a>, the codebase is in a good spot for your extrinsic builder PR if you’re still interested. Dynamic call construction changed significantly in 0.50, so depending on when you forked there will be conflicts — happy to work through those on Codeberg.
Other changes since this thread started: validator queries got rewritten to batch storage reads (~89% faster per <a href="https://codeberg.org/hantoniu/subctl/releases/tag/v0.3.9" rel="noopener nofollow ugc">v0.3.9</a>), and all release binaries are now signed with minisign (was “planning to” in the original post — done as of v0.3.6).
Still looking for guidance on the security audit. If anyone knows auditors with Substrate/Rust CLI experience, I’d appreciate a pointer. Critical paths are wallet encryption, transaction signing, and Ledger integration.

A blockchain-native X.509 workflow, built it for Substrate in FRAME. Not on GitHub yet, debating patenting first. I don’t know of anyone else doing this in any blockchain ecosystem.
Once production-ready, the goal is to deploy on Paseo, proof it, and submit for consideration as a Kusama pallet.
The mobile app and DNS-adjacent pallet projects are both rapidly approaching production-ready! As of today, the Android VM was buying registered names from the SDK node hosting the DNS pallet.
Stay tuned, I actually deliver on things. Its the potential politics and nepotism I’m worried about.

<a class="mention" href="/u/shawntabrizi">@shawntabrizi</a> there’s apparently a <a href="https://github.com/orgs/community/discussions/5634" rel="noopener nofollow ugc">GitHub issue</a> that prevents “Allow edits by maintainers” in cross-organization PRs. I rebased the PR, and it just passed the checks. I hope that fixes it.
Regarding upstream contributions, thanks for the suggestion. I’ll do my best to forward the minor improvements such as icon fixes and non-controversial UI improvements. I didn’t initialize the repository as a GitHub fork to avoid the constant “x commits ahead, y commits behind” display, which gets really confusing as the fork diverges, but the fork began at <a href="https://github.com/helikon-labs/chainconsole/commit/a7124d955b2569ea6276e053b9f8ca931bdc7ae4" rel="noopener nofollow ugc">a7124d9</a> if the maintainers would be interested in cherry-picking.

Naming is not public by design. You have to know the name to see if it exists. The only way to get every subdomain under a domain is to do a zone transfer request to the authoritative name servers. If those are properly configured they would refuse the request. With AXFR zone transfer disabled – brute force is required which can be easily mitigated. Security through obscurity is a thing and you should never help your attacker.

Yes but then you can’t make it 2.0 compatible because a 2.0 client can’t look up a domain hosted on-chain. The auth dns and reputation of those selected for auth dns by domain owners is a requirement for 2.0 compatibility. The whole point of 2.0 compatibility is to make it work with everything out of the box without modification. That 2.5 bridge along with dns hosting market place provides that. Yes, 2.0 trust-based sucks, 3.0 trustless good. I’m not sure how you square transparency with privacy in the case of domains. On 3.0, I should be able to make a subdomain and not have everyone know automatically that it exists. Personally, I liked the idea of having some sort of filecoin K/V store where the storage node is handling DNS lookups (with some work these could handle 2.0 traffic).
