<p>I also know a little bit but to be honest, I don’t think any would fundamentally change the situation.</p>
<p>Also, when you launch the project, you’ll have to open source it anyway (unless, of course, if you want to stop being “Web3”). Cardano’s partner chain as well as Bittensor has showed us that this small amount of time-to-market doesn’t matter at all. And you lose those people who came to Polkadot for the tech (because for the majority of time things aren’t open source any more).</p>

<p>Any auditor would scream if they see this accounting sheet. Now without separate entries it becomes difficult to find which projects are they, and importantly <strong>whether the accounting actually match or not</strong>.</p>
<p>If they had spent so much money, they surely could find a professional accountant to do the work properly.</p>

<p><a class="mention" href="/u/pierreaubert">@pierreaubert</a> 100% agreed to all those points, I also advocate for safer and more transparent hardware, I’ve put money in company building an <a href="https://www.youtube.com/@tomazzaman/featured" rel="noopener nofollow ugc">Open-Source 10GB/s Router</a> (hardware and software), even them were forced by one component’s Manufacture <a href="https://youtu.be/_g-OqQOmEAU?si=Bz5znJ6iHRKbN4dS&amp;t=223" rel="noopener nofollow ugc">to sign a NDA otherwise can’t support 10Gb/s speeds</a>, as result part of the source-code and hardware docs must be closed-source, same was imposed to <a href="https://support.ledger.com/article/11132311094813-zd" rel="noopener nofollow ugc">Ledger Secure Element</a>, AFAIK is not possible to build a functional computer using 100% open-source hardware and software, not without big compromises.</p>
<p>IMO the hardest part is not figure out what the ideal world should be, what is hard is figure out what pragmatically is possible to do given the current reality and constraints.</p>
<p><strong>Asahi Linux Team</strong> had a lot of trouble to <a href="https://asahilinux.org/docs/hw/soc/sep/" rel="noopener nofollow ugc">reverse engineer M1’s Secure Enclave Processor</a> and modify <a href="https://github.com/AsahiLinux/widevine-installer/blob/eab8c668ad3f9db27a444ee1f94b82d8f3ab5336/widevine_fixup.py#L46-L75" rel="noopener nofollow ugc">ChromeOS Widevine image</a> simply to allow basic stuff like watch Netflix in the browser, notice is not as simple as “there’s an open-source TEE option…” because we still depend on centralized services supporting this hardware, which probably won’t if the user base is irrelevant, or they simply decided agains’t it because saw it as a treat. I don’t think the average user will choose a safer decentralized alternative where he can’t simply watch Netflix.</p>

<p>Isn’t as simple like that, <strong>Web3</strong> will not get widely adopted if it cannot support all basic use cases that <strong>Web 2.0</strong> does, is not about replacing smart-contracts by <strong>TEE programs</strong>, is about supporting the cases that <strong>Web3</strong> doesn’t have a practical solution yet, such as:</p>
<ul>
<li>Private AI inference (I don’t like AI either, people will not simply stop using it because of it).</li>
<li>Services/Software that requires “trusted” hardware.</li>
<li><a href="https://docs.axinom.com/services/drm/general/what-is-drm/#license-serviceprovide-content-key" rel="noopener nofollow ugc">DRM License Service / Provide Content Key</a></li>
<li>Anything which is computing intensive/realtime and requires keeping data protected during processing.</li>

<p>According to Gustave Le Bon and William McDougall, when individuals coalesce into a psychological crowd their individual consciousness and rational personality vanish and become something like a collective being or hive mind. That under this collective state individuals lose their capacity for complex / rational thinking and become suggestible, emotional and impulsive.</p>
<p>The thing that plutocracy, I thought, would solve was that those higher up on the economic ladder would have had to meet a minimum of criteria to be in that position. That generally, those individuals would be more intelligent, more rational, and generally but not always better at decision making. That just made these individuals lightning rods for anyone who wanted large voters to see things their way (waggle dancing). With so many people attempting to sway your opinion it becomes impossible to debias and make rational decisions. What I hoped I would see is more focus on long term profit rather than short term gain. We got the exact opposite. As I said earlier, I still believe that the distributions played a pivotal role here and that changes to the initial distributions may have yielded a different outcome.</p>

<p>What my current hypothesis is, is that poor governance is inevitable as long as the crowd exists. Because as long as funding is involved with no <strong>dominant</strong> central vision, plan or culture pre-established, you end up with one or more in-groups, one or more out-groups and marginalized individuals/groups. In-group preference means that things will be overlooked, ignored, etc while out-group receives the lion share of criticism. (A battle of culture and vision)</p>

<p>That’s why the incentives need to align with the desired outcomes. Like I said above, token holders do not really care who gets funded for what. They care about thing that we dare not mention go up. If we can figure out what success looks like, build mechanisms for data logging/collection, and fund based on hard metrics (outcomes) – things will look a lot different. I’m not quite sure what those metrics look like right now or how any of it would work. I have some ideas but not really sure what’s possible or desirable. Silo the people to get rid of the crowds and let them build out their own vision of what polkadot looks like in smaller clusters.</p>
