The Web3 Foundation wants to celebrate the launch of parachains on Kusama by giving away free NFTs. They plan to give 9,999 people 3 different NFTs created by artists in Berlin. These NFTs are part of the Kusama Parachain Launch collection. The artists painted their own version of the Kusama canary on the Berlin Wall. To make this happen, the Web3 Foundation needs permission to create and make the NFTs on Statemine. They are asking the Council members to approve this so they can give out the NFTs. More details about the campaign and NFTs can be found in a document.

Kusama Parachain Launch NFT Campaign (2nd try)

The Web3 Foundation is planning a free NFT giveaway campaign to celebrate the launch of parachains on Kusama and raise awareness about parachains, auctions, and crowdloans. The campaign aims to engage both existing and new members of the Kusama community and educate them about these topics, as well as scam prevention and safe participation in Kusama auctions and crowdloans.

The first 9999 people to submit a claim will receive one of 3 NFTs created by Berlin-based artists Awer, Vidam, and Andreas Preis. These NFTs are part of the Kusama Parachain Launch collection and represent their interpretation of the Kusama canary, painted on a section of the Berlin Wall.

To execute this campaign, governance approval is needed to create and mint the 3 classes of NFTs on Statemine. A runtime upgrade enabling this functionality needs to be proposed on the Relay Chain Council and approved via governance. In the meantime, the collective can authorize the minting of assets in a permissioned way.

The motion is now up for vote, requesting Council members to authorize the minting of three classes of NFTs on Statemine: one class per artwork. If approved, the specified address as class controller will be able to autonomously mint the NFTs on each class after. This will help node operators and validators quickly set up or restore their infrastructure. The service includes daily snapshots, a website with metadata and download links, incident management, and redundant implementation setup. The website polkashots.io has been providing snapshots for validators for six months and is the only provider of this service. The proposal requests funding from the Kusama treasury every six months to cover operational expenses, including labor and cloud costs. The budget is calculated based on the exchange rate of KSM/EUR and includes a 5% slippage and conversion fee. If approved, work will start immediately.
