InvArch Tinkernet - Funding for a Multi-Signature Solution

Hello everyone!

My name is Dakota Barnett & I am joined by Gabriel Facco de Arruda, and we are the founders of the InvArch Network & the Tinkernet parachain on the Kusama relay. The InvArch Tinkernet is a systems parachain that provides a network of multi-party ownership, collaboration, and monetization protocols to the Kusama ecosystem & its onboarded parachains. These protocols provide no-code solutions for defining digital ownership & governance structures which can feature trustless licensing, royalties, and reputation logic built on top of them using Pallets & smart contracts.

The purpose of this discussion is to gauge community interest in the development of a new [better] multi-signature solution for the Kusama ecosystem.

The InvArch Network team seeks to provide the ecosystem with a new multi-signature solution, named Saturn, available to every parachain & implementable throughout any dApp on those parachains. This multi-signature solution will be made so that it can be easily adopted by existing wallets in the ecosystem & be immediately implemented to provide a superior multi-signature solution to the Dotsama ecosystem compared to external solutions such as Gnosis Safe.

The InvArch Network team has been building in the Polkadot & Kusama ecosystem for over a full year. We have received support from the Web3 Foundation for the development of our INV4 NFT primitives & our INV4-GIT tool. We are also the core team behind the Tinkernet Parachain on the Kusama relay. The project’s founders include Dakota Barnett & Gabriel Facco de Arruda.

Multi-party ownership solutions are the core of nearly every project being developed by the InvArch Network team, which has heavily influenced the design of the network’s infrastructure. While sharing our proposed multi-signature implementation with other builders & community members throughout the ecosystem, we have received tremendous interest & support. We also had a meeting with a member (Ricardo) from Parity Technologies in the past regarding our solution and received positive feedback on its capabilities.

When keeping in mind that the Saturn multi-sig solution is a module that underpins the DAOist CDK, current known supporters that intend to one day use this technology include YoudleDAO, ChaosDAO, WagMedia, and SpacersDAO.

The current multi-signature implementations available for builders in the ecosystem either rely on the current implementation used in the original multi-sig Pallet developed by Parity (which is limiting) or by developing their own custom solutions (which is time-consuming & costly). The ecosystem also lacks account-recovery capabilities & the ability to onboard & off-board new members of a multi-signature implementation. This is a very restricting problem, with concerns being shared across the Kusama community. We would like to change this current reality.

Why are we seeking support from the Kusama treasury?

There are a few important reasons that we are asking for support from the Kusama treasury & the broader Kusama community. First & foremost, due to the current conditions of the market & the VC appetitive toward our ecosystem, it has been incredibly difficult for us to raise capital to support our team & we are struggling; however, while venture capital may be a bit scarce at this point in time, the amount of support we have received from the community has been tremendous. The Kusama community has truly made us feel like we are valued & wanted in this ecosystem, and since day one, we have also been a very "community-first" project.

We did raise funding ($1.75m) in the past, we raised these funds in 2021 & made the announcement of the raise in early 2022. This was raised with a shared vision for a 1-year runway, and that runway has run out. Reflecting on the past, as the founder of this project, I do have deep regrets about not raising more funds for our team while we may have had the chance. Also, we scaled our team at a pace that I regret, understanding now that we could have preserved more runway for our team. Today, we have a much smaller & more efficient team.

I would like to note that our Tinkernet parachain is truly a community first parachain, one where we provided no VC funding, held an LBP event, and provided a very rewarding experience to the Kusama community, only rivaled by Moonriver in some cases as the most rewarding crowdloan in the ecosystem's history. Our team has absolutely no liquid tokens, though, not for about another year will our tokens start to unlock. With that being said, while we would never want to do it in the first place, we are actually unable to sell TNKR tokens to sustain the development of the project.

What we are proposing to build for the ecosystem is designed to service the entirety of Kusama & its parachains. We are providing it in a way that individuals will never need to purchase TNKR (optional, though) & can use KSM. This is an open-source solution for Kusama, and a solution that we truly believe will be a big boost for the ecosystem. We are confident that if trusted by the community to deliver this solution, Kusama will go from having one of the worst multi-sig experiences in Web3 to one of the best, if not the best. Public interest in the potential for our multi-sig has been shared by the community in the past, and we would be extremely grateful if the community will signal their support for us to build this for Kusama.
