Including here the explanation behind the open tips for translations I have decided to kick off in the last days, given some questions were raised on the Direction Channel.
The open tips are for work done on translations for Wikis, Polkadot light paper, website and blogposts, all done in the past months.
The volunteers translating the materials were part of the Polkadot Ambassadors Program. These tips are retroactive for the work done. The reason why in some cases there are more than one open tip for one language (in this case Turkish) is because a group of ambassadors worked in the translations together, so we take into account all of them for the tips. You will find some of them have an identity linked to the address and some don’t: I worked with W3F to track them down and get the addresses in order to open the tips. Please consider endorsing if you re a council member.
Regarding the different amounts: some council members raised the question of why the amounts differ so much - the amount of work and resources translated were not the same, I tried to evaluate the amount of work per volunteer and endorse with an amount that tries to reflect this (while some only translated website, others also translated wikis, blogposts, among other things, so the amount should be different).
Sometimes it is not possible to link an identity to an address for some users. However, as stated by JAM, we should all agree on a standard on how to handle tips that are linked to an anonymous address. Other options, like the ones suggested by him in the channel ("...put a tipping address in your readme/tweet/comment and link to it in your reason") might work for some but not for all, happy to open this discussion.
