Proposal Overview
Account Identity is a key component in the governance of the Polkadot and Kusama networks. PolkaIdentity mission is to promote transparent governance and active participation within these ecosystems. We are pleased to announce our application to become a registrar.
Importance of On-Chain Identities
On-chain identities in the Polkadot ecosystem are essential for building trust, accountability, and interoperability. By creating unique digital fingerprints, participants can securely engage within the network. An on-chain identity establishes a reliable and verifiable framework for participants governed by a defined set of rules, enabling seamless integration and collaboration between different projects and stakeholders. Furthermore, on-chain identities enhance accountability by vetting participants and providing multiple contact points for individuals or teams. This additional layer of protection is crucial when requesting funds or proposing changes, ensuring the network and its resources are safeguarded through the verification process.
Current Challenges with On-Chain Identity System
Reliance on PolkadotJS: The process heavily depends on navigating through PolkadotJS, which can be overwhelming for newcomers.
Manual Verification: A few registrars are using manual verification for Twitter, Element, and email, which is cumbersome and dependent on the registrar's availability.
Maintainability: Some also offer multiple other services, making it difficult to follow the chain upgrades. As seen with the new People parachain, it broke all current registrars without communication from their side or ETA for resuming the service.
Why PolkaIdentity is Uniquely Positioned
User Adoption: Focusing on on-chain identity, we leverage the right prompts and experiences to ensure teams adopt its features.
Enhanced Experience: PolkaIdentity will continuously work on differentiating the experience for proposal creators, governance participants, and networks, making verifying on-chain identities a critical step toward success.
Our prototype:
Changes in fees due to market conditions will be reflected in the user interface and communicated to users.
