The last edition of custom branded Kusama/Polkadot chocolate bars was well received and we were able to share them during Polkadot Decoded in Brussels to both members and non-members of the Kusama/Polkadot community.
I'd like to release another edition this year, which can be shared at Polkadot Decoded and other related events, such as Sub0 for example.
Due to logistical concerns (customs, transportation, and shelf life), I prefer to focus on European events.
If Polkadot Decoded is not held in Europe this year, I will explore options for shipping chocolate boxes there without extra costs. For instance, I could ask the event host if they could transport some boxes with their event equipment. This way, we can avoid additional shipping costs. If for some reason it's impossible to get the boxes shipped overseas, then we would still have the option to share the boxes at smaller events or Meet Ups in Europe.
I have an idea that I'd like to share with you and receive your feedback on:
Instead of giving away free chocolate boxes as we did in previous years, I propose offering them in exchange for voluntary donations. This means that individuals can pay any amount they choose, but payments must be made using either Kusama or Polkadot tokens.
This way we encourage users to get onboarded to the Kusama/Polkadot ecosystem and make them use mobile wallet solutions, in case they are new users. What happens with the KSM or DOT tokens used to pay for the chocolate bars and which wallet is going to be used to receive these payments?
Well, I guess there are several options available. We could use these funds to donate to Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) for example, with the wallet receving the funds being either under the control of Parity, the Web 3 Foundation or myself.
Or we could simply redirect the funds back to the treasury. I'd be happy to hear other ideas on how to handle the funds from the payments for the chocolate bars.
Regarding the design, I would like to develop a new design together with my fellow artist friend Sua Agape, who I've worked with successfully in the past and who I'm convinced that she will be able to provide a unique and catchy design for the Proof of Sound chocolate box.
She has agreed on $500 payment, which is the same amount I paid for the graphis designer who was working on the designs from the last editions.
Regarding the requested funding amount, I would ask for the same amount like for last years edition which was €4500 (US $4700).
The costs will include the production of the chocolate bars and box, the payment for the graphic designer, shipping costs and 19% VAT.
I'd expect to get around 200-220 boxes out of this budget.
Looking forward to reading your comments!
