# Revitalizing Kusama
*Funding the Virto DAO in Q3 and Q4*

Virto presents a strategy to revitalize Kusama, transforming it from a perceived "chaotic testnet" into a thriving ecosystem for innovative Web3 projects that can easily go from idea to scalable organization in minutes.

Continuing the successful focused strategy of [Q2](https://kusama.subsquare.io/referenda/358), we present two key milestones to continue building the KSM-centric Kreivo infrastructure and accompanying platform and tools to be completed by the end of each 2024 quarter:

- Q3: A beautifully simple platform for organizations management and governance. Most early-stage start-ups and real world businesses will find most tool they need to manage their organization, make decentralized decisions, receive payments and create market places - all without worrying about wallets or fees.

- Q4: Extensibility and tailoring for an organization's special needs. To get that crucial 20% extra missing from the base infrastructure, we will provide customization options, enabling businesses to add their unique "secret sauce". This includes adding custom sections to their organization page, a SDK that can be integrated in 3rd-party apps, smart contracts, off-chain plugins and a prototype system to effortlessly scale an organization to a dedicated Kusama core for increased throughput.

These milestones aim to lower entry barriers and position Kusama as the go-to network for rapid Web3 innovation. Our proposal details how we'll address current challenges and make Kusama an ideal platform for early-stage projects to tailor their environments and achieve sustainable growth.

#### Notes

- Requested amount: **8,500 KSM** (each quarter). KSM comes from the idle treasury funds in the Kusama AssetHub. Q4 funds are set to be available form 01/10/2024, so the community can cancel the second payment if the team is not delivering as expected. The team's quarterly costs are 160,000 USD, with EMA7 equals 9156.98 KSM, we round down the amount to have less impact on treasury betting on a positive price action of the KSM.
- Funds management: As with previously requested funds, team members are to be payed in KSM using the vesting pallet and the open governance of the DAO. Ideally we would like to find on-chain buyers of the KSM to pay instead with stable coin using our payments pallet.
- Based on the [sustainability model of our tokenless parachain](https://forum.polkadot.network/t/sustainability-model-of-a-tokenless-protocol/8683) and besides [parallel efforts](https://kusama.subsquare.io/referenda/414) by the GrowthDAO team to onboard more organizations to Kreivo, Virto has a "secret" goal of on-boarding 1 or more bigger organizations in growth stage by the end of the year that can bring enough revenue to the protocol via the renewal of memberships and payment fees to achieve self-sustainability.
- The Virto DAO might keep renewing the several Kusama cores acquired recently to cooperate with other teams in the ecosystem that don't want to worry about the maintenance of a parachain and prototype our system of simple deployment of "satellite chains" governed from Kreivo.

As for the verification, I'm sorry to say that unfortunately, since addresses for Kreivo DAOs are fully keyless (I.e. managed by the Parachain via DAO governance or management, it is not possible to verify these addresses with the currently available registrars, as the currently available ones require you to assert you are the signer of the address requesting judgement via their UIs. There was a registrar that formerly supported semi-automated judgements, managed by W3F, but now it's gone.

We've been working on a future (see [runtimes#382](https://github.com/polkadot-fellows/runtimes/issues/382) for more information on what we're waiting before unveiling it) implementation of a registrar intended to verify Kreivo DAOs that have (in the past and future) added their identities on People Chain.

I think Virto/Krievo can be the basis for the Kusama network uprise.

But I suggest making it not in the form of an upfront payment, but instead through a bounty spending and using it step by step to reach the results under monitor of Curators who care about Kusama and proof the interest and have a track of contributions. 


[@PromoTeam Validator](Dm4uKxZJZHJbpZpfnYPiHnbgyHWKMU1s5h6X7kqjfYv1Xkk-kusama) I've never been big fan of bounties as they feel like half-baked DAOs. Would you be open to the idea of creating a "curator DAO" that is more capable and can oversee Virto's developments and approve payments whenever we deliver? I wouldn't mind transferring the awarded funds to the curator DAO so you an other trusted members of Kusama can manage them. It would be even more interesting to try out a model for curation of proposals I proposed long time ago, if the curator DAO handles the conversion to stables it can profit from the management of the funds, after all the team just wants some fixed budget to be able to pay salaries.

As I mentioned in referenda 420 https://kusama.subsquare.io/referenda/420, I consider could be necessary to create a bounty to review this kind of proposal related with common good chains or Pseudo /System chain/DAO. The bounty that determines the need for the expenses to be incurred, pre-approves the expenses and establishes the guidelines for retroactive funding and future funding of Common Good Chains/ Pseudo / System chains and in turn evaluates the viability of this type of organizations in the ecosystem.
As a ecosystem we should discuss about to create this type of bounties.

The account we used to submit the proposal is a **Keyless Account** tied to an **XCM Origin**. Thus, the only mechanism we can use to request a judgment (verification) is to send an XCM from the DAO in Kreivo.

Due to this limitation, verifying the account with some major registrars (like LitEntry or Polkassembly) won't work for our case, as they need some key-based authentication against their systems.

That said, we're currently conversing with other registrars that might handle a manual verification process. I know it's a bit slower, but hopefully, we'll have it ready soon.

Furthermore, a long-term solution for this problem we're adding to our roadmap is a registrar for verifying DAOs created within Kreivo.

Hi, Everyone; I'm voting yes with conviction. I have known and respected Daniel's work for more than 4 years. I'll be using Virto for governance, treasury, core time and others in the Kinera.network DAO. I support all initiatives to revitalise Kusama. It would be great to see a strategy that everybody could agree with, a set of intentions and initiatives to bring more teams to build in this space. 

After listening to Daniel Olano and his presentation at AAG I change my vote to aye although I maintain my consideration of requiring a bounty or collective that can review the system chains and this type of initiatives.
